RV travel guide
Cook County
County seat Grand Marais, 1,450 sq mi across Minnesota. Everything an RV traveler should read before rolling in — where you can boondock, the roads worth the detour, and the local rule that actually matters.

The county in brief
A traveler's read on Cook County
Cook County wraps Minnesota's entire Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness eastern segment — at 1.1 million acres the BWCAW is the largest federally-designated wilderness east of the Rockies, and the only US wilderness where entry permits are sold by quota for every single canoe-route entry point.
The Gunflint Trail runs 57 miles from Grand Marais northwest into the BWCAW, paved through the entire length but ending at the wilderness boundary. Grand Marais (population 1,353) is the only town with full-service grocery on Lake Superior's north shore between Duluth and Thunder Bay. Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine SP and Bear Head Lake SP both accept rigs to 50 ft with electric hookups.

Your next step
Seeing Cook County from a rig
Most public land here allows dispersed camping for up to 14 days, which makes this county far friendlier to a self-contained rig than to a hotel plan.

Nothing in Minnesota is bookable today — PickRV opens for bookings on October 25. Dated requests are what we take to owners, so give us the window you actually want — you get one email the day a rig covers it, and nothing else.
