What qualifies
A motorhome is the RV you drive yourself: engine, living space, and bed in one vehicle, with no separate tow truck needed. PickRV groups them into three classes. Class A coaches are the largest — long, flat-front rigs built for cross-country touring and snowbird routes down to Florida or Arizona. Class C motorhomes sit on a van or truck chassis with an over-cab bunk, which makes them a steady first choice for families heading to national parks like Yellowstone or the Great Smoky Mountains. Class B campervans are compact and easy to park, ideal for couples and solo road trips along the Pacific Coast or the Blue Ridge Parkway. You compare rigs by who hosts them, then book directly. Renters pay one transparent 10% service fee at checkout plus tax, with no drip pricing, and cancellation is free for 48 hours.
Timing
Mid-October to mid-April is the season: daytime highs of 60-80 F, dry desert nights, and Red Rock and Valley of Fire comfortable for full-day exploration. Note the Red Rock rule inside that same window — the Scenic Drive requires a timed-entry reservation on Recreation.gov from October 1 through May 31 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Skip mid-June to mid-September: 105-115 F highs push pavement past 140 F, which is exactly the regime that surfaces aging RV tires, and air-conditioning loads overwhelm 30-amp pedestals at older parks. Around events, book far ahead: NFR in early December, CES in early January, and EDC's two May weekends each sell out parks 60-180 days in advance at 2-5x rates.

The only on-Strip RV park: full hookups with 50/30-amp service for rigs to 45 feet at about $80 a night, booking 12 months out. If the point of the trip is Las Vegas itself, this eliminates the shuttle question entirely — but during NFR, CES, or the RV Dealers convention it fills a week or more ahead with rates up 30-50%.
The big-rig resort 7 miles south: full hookups, 50-amp service, and pull-throughs that take rigs to 70 feet at around $75 a night. It is the comfortable landing for the largest Class A coaches, and its dump station serves non-guests for $15 when you only need the utility stop.
The National Park Service option 28 miles out on Lakeshore Road: no hookups, rigs to 35 feet, $20 a night with potable water and a free dump station on site. Per the city guide's checklist, dumping here (with the $25 NRA pass) beats paying $15-25 at private parks — and you wake up at Lake Mead instead of on Boulder Highway.
Fifty-five miles northeast in Nevada's signature red-rock state park: sites 23-44 carry electric and water, length runs to 55 feet, and the rate is about $35 with an 11-month reservation window. The park's dump station is free with campground or day-use entry — the rare no-fee dump in the region.
What it costs
Motorhomes on PickRV list from $89 to $450 per night, with one 10% service fee plus tax at checkout and free cancellation for 48 hours. Vegas campground economics span $20 (Boulder Beach) to about $110 (the Class A-only motorcoach resort) a night — and event weeks move private-park rates 2-5x, so the calendar is the real price lever.
Good to know
Not if it is 24 feet or longer. Las Vegas Municipal Code §11.52.305 bars RVs, trailers, and combinations 24 ft+ (or over 8,000 lbs) from streets adjacent to residence districts, schools, and parks — citation can issue immediately, tow and impound run $250-600, and Nevada can place a DMV registration hold on the rig. Unincorporated Clark County adds a no-habitation rule on top. Use a park.
Yes, mechanically. Mid-June to mid-September brings 105-115 F days with pavement over 140 F — the conditions that trigger RV tire failures — and AC loads that overwhelm 30-amp pedestals at older parks. The city guide's checklist says to check tire pressure cold at sunrise and verify your AC holds on 50-amp shore power for a full hour before sundown.
From October 1 through May 31, yes — every vehicle entering the Scenic Drive between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. needs a timed-entry reservation booked on Recreation.gov, and walk-ups are turned away. Book before you arrive, and note that larger Class A and C rigs do not fit the standard campground sites 46-53 there.
