PickRV's strongest off-road hubs are Moab in Utah, with its famous slickrock, and the Aspen-Denver corridor in Colorado. Because this gear carries real risk, renters bring their own coverage, and any BLM or dispersed-camping access must be confirmed before pickup. Timing
Mid-October to mid-April is the desert riding season for the same reason it is the camping season: 60-80 F days instead of the 105-115 F furnace of mid-June to mid-September, when pavement over 140 F stresses every tire in the combination — tow vehicle, trailer, and machine alike. Shoulder months add long, rideable daylight without the summer battery-cooking heat the guide warns about. One calendar note specific to hauled rigs: EDC's two May weekends turn the I-15 north corridor into stop-and-go from Thursday afternoon through Monday morning and sell out the Speedway grounds and nearby parks months ahead — do not route a trailer through it unaware.

The staging fuel stop the guide describes in exactly the words that matter here: pull-through high-clearance truck lanes sized for Class A rigs and dually trucks with toy haulers, with high-flow diesel and DEF at the pump. Fuel the whole combination without unhooking, top the machine's cans, and head out of the metro in one stop.
The red-rock basecamp 55 miles northeast: electric and water on sites 23-44, length to 55 feet — enough for most truck-plus-toy-hauler setups — at about $35 a night with showers and a free dump. Ride where land managers allow it and keep machines trailered inside the state park; the campsite is the base, the desert beyond is the destination.
The southeast-side base at $20 a night with potable water and a free dump — the cheapest legal overnight in the region for a rig supporting desert days, 28 miles out on Lakeshore Road. The 35-foot length cap is the planning constraint: measure the full combination before assuming the toy hauler fits.
The in-metro staging option when the trip brackets a Strip night: 70-foot pull-throughs swallow any toy-hauler combination, full hookups run the AC and the tool chargers, and the $15 non-guest dump handles the utility stop. Seven miles from the resort corridor, 12-month booking window.

No — this is the city where that mistake is most expensive. LVMC §11.52.305 covers trailers and combinations 24 feet or longer on residential-adjacent streets with immediate citation, $250-600 tow and impound, and a possible Nevada DMV registration hold. Clark County adds a no-habitation rule. Stage on a campground or RV-park site, full stop.
On lands where the managing agency allows OHV use — which is a land-manager question, not a city question. State parks like Valley of Fire and NPS areas like Lake Mead serve as basecamps, not riding areas.
