Great Smoky Mountains' Elkmont valley hosts the most famous synchronized firefly display in North America — waves of light rolling through the forest in unison. NPS manages viewing by lottery each spring; dates publish ahead of the window.

When Tennessee is at its best
Tennessee's prime RV window is April to June and September to October. Smokies and Nashville area are pleasant in shoulder seasons; summers are humid and winters can bring ice. Shoulder-season play: March and November are quieter but mountains can have frost and some roads may close with early snow or ice.
