What the official site doesn't tell you
PickRV editor's field notes
The NPS site lists Guadalupe Mountains as 'Texas's highest peaks' but doesn't tell you that the campground BANS GENERATORS — RV-class travelers expecting hookups are caught off-guard. Plan for solar or a 1-2 day trip max. Second non-obvious: the park has TWO entrances 90mi apart (Pine Springs + McKittrick Canyon) — most visitors don't realize they should pick one. McKittrick Canyon for fall colors (rare in West TX, peak late Oct-early Nov). Pine Springs for Guadalupe Peak hike. Third: this is the ONLY US national park where you can hike to the actual highest point in the state via marked trail (8.4mi RT, 3000ft gain). Fourth: combine with Carlsbad Caverns NP (45 min N in NM) — most Guadalupe trips include Carlsbad as natural day-trip.
