LA → SF Bay → Seattle: a 10-day WC 2026 RV trip

Overview

The West Coast corridor is the most scenic of the three sample WC itineraries: PCH between LA and Santa Cruz, Mount Shasta and the Cascades north of Sacramento, and the Olympic Peninsula reachable from a Seattle base. Fuel for a Class C runs $560 to $720; California fuel prices are the highest in the country.

Day 1–2: LAX arrival, pickup Inland Empire

LAX is a frustrating airport for RV transfers; most depots are in the Inland Empire (Ontario, Riverside, Fontana) and the transfer is 60 to 90 minutes against typical afternoon traffic. Settle the first two nights at Dockweiler Beach RV Park — one of the few oceanfront RV parks in the LA basin with a direct flight-path view (a feature for some, a bug for others).

Day 3: SoFi Stadium match day

SoFi does not allow RVs in any on-site lot on match day. The standard workaround: park at a permitted lot in El Segundo or Hawthorne, shuttle to the stadium, return after the match. Confirm shuttle availability before you book the match; this is the most logistically complex of all eleven WC host venues.

Day 4–5: PCH and Big Sur

The PCH between San Luis Obispo and Carmel is one of the great American drives. Big Sur is RV-passable but slow — plan eight hours of driving for 280 miles. Overnight at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park (book six months ahead; the park caps RV length around 32 feet). Cell coverage is intermittent for the entire stretch; download offline maps before you leave.

Day 6: Levi's Stadium match day (Santa Clara)

Levi's has limited oversize-vehicle capacity. Advance pass required, no overnight. The trip from Big Sur to Levi's is three hours via US-101. Nearest legal overnight park: Trailer Tel RV Park in San Jose (8 miles south of the stadium) or Coyote Lake Harvey Bear Ranch County Park (45 minutes further south).

Day 7: I-5 north overnight at Mt Shasta or Ashland

Day 7 is a long push: Santa Clara to Mt Shasta is 280 miles, six hours, mostly I-5. Mt Shasta KOA is the standard overnight pick. If you want to cross into Oregon and overnight at Ashland instead, it adds 60 miles but opens a Crater Lake side trip on Day 8.

Day 8–9: Seattle approach

Mt Shasta to Seattle is 540 miles; break it into two days with an overnight near Portland (Jantzen Beach RV Park is convenient but industrial, Champoeg State Heritage Area is the prettier alternative). Lake Pleasant RV Park in Bothell is the standard Seattle WC base — full hookups, 25-minute drive to Lumen Field.

Day 9: Lumen Field match day (Seattle)

Lumen Field uses the SODO district lots for oversize vehicles. Advance pass required, no overnight at the stadium. SODO traffic on match day is intense; plan to be on-site five hours before kickoff or accept a two-hour egress queue after the final whistle. Pioneer Square dining is walkable from the lot if you want a post-match meal off the rig.

Day 10: Return leg + dropoff logistics

Most West Coast WC travelers fly home from SEA rather than backtrack to LA. Coordinate one-way dropoff at depot pickup; expect a $400 to $700 one-way fee. If you must drive back to LA, plan a 18-hour return haul split across two days minimum.
