Pigeon Forge Municipal Code Title 12 caps continuous on-street parking at 72 hours and prohibits oversize vehicle parking on the Parkway (US-441) between traffic light 1 and traffic light 10 — the heart of the tourist strip. Class A and Class C drivers must use the Pigeon Forge Trolley parking lots or stay at a peripheral campground and ride the trolley into the strip.
The closest serious campground is Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg KOA Resort (in-town) or Riverbend Campground (3 mi N). Inside Great Smoky Mountains NP, Elkmont Campground (12 mi S near Sugarlands visitor center) and Cades Cove Campground (35 mi SW via Townsend) are the main NPS options — both reserve via recreation.gov 6 months ahead and Cades Cove fills within minutes for synchronous firefly weeks (early June) and elk rut weeks (Sep-Oct).
The Cades Cove Loop Road has a 25-mph cap and bear and elk sightings routinely jam the 11-mile loop to a crawl. Pigeon Forge sits at 1,030 ft.
