Elk rut bugling under the Tetons
September dawns at Willow Flats and Oxbow Bend carry the sound first — a bull elk's bugle rolling off the Teton wall. Dawn and dusk, peak late September; listen from the pullouts and keep the meadow between you and the herd.
Seasonal RV-timing verdict
When Wyoming is at its best
Wyoming's prime RV window is June to September. Yellowstone and Grand Teton roads are open and wildlife viewing peaks; winters are long and cold with most roads closed. Shoulder-season play: Late May and early October are beautiful in lower areas but high country can still have snow and many services close.
Know before you go
Bears are active; carry spray. Afternoon thunderstorms bring lightning in the mountains. Wildfires can close roads.
