Great Allegheny Passage

The Great Allegheny Passage is a 150-mile rail-trail running from Pittsburgh PA to Cumberland MD, where it connects to the C&O Canal Towpath for an additional 184 miles to Washington DC — a 335-mile traffic-free continuous corridor that's become one of the most-cycled long-distance bike routes in North America. The grade never exceeds 2 percent (it's an old railroad bed) which makes it accessible to almost any cyclist, including families with kids. Trail towns at Confluence, Ohiopyle, Meyersdale, Frostburg, and Cumberland all have RV-accessible parking lots within 100 yards of the trail. Ohiopyle State Park (PA, 30-ft cap, electric) is the highest-quality rig basecamp — the trail passes through the campground area and the Youghiogheny River whitewater section means you can stage a multi-day bike-and-raft trip without moving the rig. The trail's signature engineering — the Big Savage Tunnel (3,294 ft) and the Eastern Continental Divide crossing at Deal PA — are the photo stops.
