Renting an RV in Boone: what to know before pickup
Boone has its own arrival logistics. Honey Bear Campground handles both the first night and the dump station. One street-parking ordinance applies to RVs here — cited in full in the arrival guide.
Street parking reality
RVs may not park on town streets longer than 24 hours; oversized restrictions extend 2 mi from Appalachian State campus

Skip the classic mistake
Driving the Blue Ridge Parkway in winter without checking NPS closure status
Best window: Mid-May through October — Blue Ridge green season and foliage with comfortable highland…
The Boone window to avoid
November through April — Blue Ridge Parkway closures and snowpack on US-321.
What that mistake costs
Parkway closes 40-60% of mileage November through April; check NPS daily
Day one, after you pick the rig up
- Top off propane at U-Haul of Boone, 240 NC-105 Ext, Boone, NC 28607, on arrival day if tanks read below 30%.
- Drive direct to Honey Bear Campground — Boone Code Chapter 12 restricts overnight on-street parking in residential zones.
- Verify scenic-drive open status on Blue Ridge Parkway (Milepost 285 to 305) (some seasonal closures).
