Renting an RV in Ocean City: what to know before pickup
Ocean City has its own arrival logistics. Assateague State Park handles both the first night and the free dump station. One street-parking ordinance applies to RVs here — cited in full in the arrival guide.
Street parking reality
The width trigger of 6 ft 8 in is the one that surprises people — virtually every RV, including compact camper vans, is at least 7 ft wide. Assume your rental is an "oversized vehicle" in Ocean City no matter how short…

Skip the classic mistake
Trying to find on-street RV parking anywhere in Ocean City
Best window: Mid-May through June and September through early October — pre/post peak summer with…
The Ocean City window to avoid
August — peak boardwalk traffic doubles drive times on US-50; hurricane-window vigilance required.
What that mistake costs
Year-round prohibition; only legal options are Assateague State Park or private campgrounds
Day one, after you pick the rig up
- Top off propane at U-Haul of Salisbury, 2700 N Salisbury Blvd, Salisbury, MD 21801, on arrival day if tanks read below 30%.
- Drive direct to Assateague State Park — Ocean City Code Sec. 90-204 restricts overnight on-street parking in residential zones.
- Verify scenic-drive open status on Coastal Heritage Scenic Byway (MD-528 / MD-611) (some seasonal closures).
