Illinois has summer RV season focus. Lake Michigan + Mississippi River are highlights. Winter cold limits.

   RV trip: The thaw begins — Chicago dyes its river green mid-month, snowmelt refills the canyon waterfalls, and the first spring birds push north.

   RV trip: Full green spring, mild and bright — the prairie state's underrated best-of month before summer humidity. Everything from Galena to the Shawnee works.
