The 1935 Deception Pass Bridge spans the tidal strait between Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands 180 feet above swirling 8-knot tidal currents — one of the most photographed bridges in the Pacific Northwest and the spine of Washington's most-visited state park (1.8 million annual visitors). The Cranberry Lake, Quarry Pond, and Bowman Bay campgrounds hold 310 sites combined with electric hookups at a generous 60-ft cap (genuinely the longest in Washington's state-park system), year-round operation, dump station at the entrance. Reservations open 9 months ahead via the Washington State Parks portal and summer-weekend Cranberry Lake sites clear within the first hour of the window opening. Bald eagles concentrate on the strait pylons spring and fall. The Goose Rock trail's summit offers a 360° view across the San Juan Islands and the Olympic range.
