The dunes here sit in a striking three-way setting — Silver Lake on one side, Lake Michigan on the other, and a sea of bare, shifting sand in between. Part of the dune field is a designated off-road area, while large sections remain open for walking and taking in the views.
The off-road dune season runs in the warmer months, and summer is the peak time for the beaches and the campground; spring and fall are quieter, with cooler air over the lake. The open sand makes for dramatic light at sunrise and sunset.
