Verizon vs AT&T vs T-Mobile — landmass coverage reality
Verizon: ~85% US landmass with usable LTE+. Strong rural West (Wyoming, Montana, Dakotas, Idaho). Weak in some Appalachian + Ozark pockets.

Free WiFi networks + alternatives
Many RV parks offer 'free WiFi' that ranges from 'fast + reliable' (KOA premium) to 'unusable' (older state parks with single saturated router). Verify by reading recent reviews.
Backup options: McDonald's free WiFi (15,000+ US locations), Starbucks free WiFi (15,000+ US locations), public library WiFi (extends to parking lot 80%+ of branches). Most can sustain video calls + remote work.
What carrier marketing maps don't tell you
The under-shared truth: carrier-published coverage maps are based on theoretical signal strength under ideal conditions. Real-world rural coverage drops 20-30% in mountainous terrain, dense forest, valleys behind ridgelines. The FCC Form 477 data + third-party Speedtest results give better real-world picture.
Second under-shared truth: NPS units intentionally limit infrastructure deployment to preserve 'wilderness experience' character. Do not expect cellular coverage inside major NPS units regardless of carrier. Plan to be unreachable during visits.
