Mendocino County
County seat Ukiah, 3,506 sq mi across California. Everything an RV traveler should read before rolling in — where you can boondock, the roads worth the detour, and the local rule that actually matters.

The county in brief
A traveler's read on Mendocino County
Anderson Valley AVA holds 81 bonded wineries on 2,400 planted acres, more Alsatian-style Gewürztraminer than anywhere outside Alsace per the AVA's USDA-recognized petition — and CA-128 from Cloverdale to the coast is the only paved route through, two-lane and braking-heavy for any rig over 30 ft because of the 65-mph speed limit and the 3,000-ft cumulative climb.
Mendocino County wraps 130 miles of Pacific coast plus the eastern Mendocino National Forest, with Ukiah (population 16,607) the county seat in the inland Russian River valley. Coastal Fort Bragg and Mendocino village run the tourism economy; inland Willits anchors the US-101 corridor. The MacKerricher and Russian Gulch state parks are the canonical coastal RV stops, both with hookup-free loops and 32-35 ft rig caps.
