Between October 7 and March 6 each year, Cadillac Mountain at 1,530 ft on Mt. Desert Island is the first ground in the contiguous US to receive sunrise — a function of being the easternmost coastal high point on the Atlantic seaboard combined with the winter sun-axis tilt — and the NPS now requires a separately-reserved vehicle permit for the summit road during those months (Cadillac Summit Road Vehicle Reservation, recreation.gov, opens 90 days in advance). The 4am parking-lot fill during fall foliage shoulder is real; planning a rig morning summit between mid-September and late October without that reservation will mean a turn-around at the lower gate. Hancock County covers 1,588 sq mi between the Penobscot Bay shore at Castine and the Washington County line east of Schoodic Peninsula, wrapping Mt. Desert Island in its entirety, the Schoodic Peninsula, the Cranberry Isles, and the Ellsworth-to-Bar Harbor ME-3 corridor that takes 80% of summer Acadia traffic.

Park Loop Road's two-way section accommodates rigs up to 30 ft comfortably; the one-way summit road is fine at any length. Bar Harbor (population 5,535) is the only town with a seasonal Cat Ferry connection to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia — the ferry is a cars-and-foot service (not RV-class for rigs over 35 ft per Bay Ferries published vehicle limits). Schoodic Woods Campground (the only NPS-managed Acadia loop with full hookups, accepting rigs to 35 ft) opens late May through Columbus Day on the Schoodic Peninsula side; Blackwoods Campground on Mt. Desert Island runs no-hookups on a reservation system that fills 6 months out. Practical resupply is Ellsworth (population 8,399, the county seat at the head of Frenchman Bay) — the only big-box grocery between Belfast and Calais.
