RV travel guide
Bonner County
County seat Sandpoint, 1,738 sq mi across Idaho. Everything an RV traveler should read before rolling in — where you can boondock, the roads worth the detour, and the local rule that actually matters.

The county in brief
A traveler's read on Bonner County
Lake Pend Oreille at 1,150 ft depth is the fifth-deepest natural lake in the United States and was used by the US Navy from 1942 to 1949 as the second-largest inland submarine training base in WWII — sonar testing on the lake bottom continues today at the Acoustic Research Detachment.
Bonner County wraps Lake Pend Oreille, the Selkirk Mountains rising to 7,572 ft Chimney Rock, and the Idaho panhandle's only segment of the International Selkirk Loop (the only NSB designated scenic byway that crosses an international border). Sandpoint (population 9,025) at the lake's north tip is the only full-service grocery + diesel between Coeur d'Alene and the Canadian border on US-95.
