Arriving in Sun Valley, ID with a rented RV
Sun Valley is a small resort attached to the larger town of Ketchum at 5,750 ft in the Wood River Valley, and the two cities share an RV story: very little inside city limits, abundant USFS and SP camping a short drive away.

Ketchum City Code Sec. 4 prohibits overnight RV parking on city streets; the Sun Valley Resort itself is a private property without RV camping. The actual basecamps for renters: Boundary Campground (USFS Sawtooth NF, 3 mi north on Hwy 75, 8 sites no hookups, first-come), North Fork Campground (USFS, 7 mi north, 30 sites, no hookups), and farther afield the Sawtooth Recreation Area (SNRA) corridor northward into the Stanley basin (see separate Stanley guide).
Easley and Wood River campgrounds also along Hwy 75 add capacity. For full hookups: Meadows RV Park in Hailey (15 mi south) is the closest full-hookup option. Hwy 75 (Sawtooth Scenic Byway) is the singular paved corridor — winter chain advisories from ITD Nov-Apr; Galena Summit (8,701 ft) closes briefly during heavy snow but is generally maintained.
The big calendar items are Sun Valley Film Festival (March), Wagon Days (Labor Day weekend, biggest event of the year, large non-motorized parade), and the Ketchum Wine Auction (mid-July). Propane available at Maverik in Ketchum and Hailey; full diesel at Pilot/Flying J in Twin Falls (90 mi south) or Maverik truckable in Hailey. The local watch-out: smoke from regional wildfires (Aug-Sep) can render outdoor activities impossible for days at a stretch; check AirNow.gov before committing to extended stays. Best window is mid-June through early September; ski season (Dec-Mar) is for ski lodging, not RV.

Avoid this trap
Assuming all USFS sites along Hwy 75 are reservable — Boundary is first-come and fills by noon in peak summer
Arriving after midday during July-August can mean a 90-minute drive south or to Stanley basin for fallback
