The Hyde Park and North End historic neighborhoods enforce visitor parking via decal — RVs without decals draw rapid citations. To the south, Snake River Birds of Prey NCA (Bureau of Land Management) operates a year-round dispersed camping protocol with 14-day stay limits. The closest serious campground is Mountain View RV Park or Boise Riverside RV Park (both within 3 mi of downtown), and Lucky Peak State Park (10 mi east) offers reservoir-side sites with limited hookups.
Plan dump and propane in town, time Sawtooth runs for late June through early October when ID-21 is fully passable, and avoid downtown 8th St in any rig over 25 ft during First Thursday art walks (first Thursday of every month).
When to come
Best: Late May through early October: ID-21 fully open to Stanley, Lucky Peak SP at full capacity, average highs 70-92 F. Trade-off: late July basin heat above 100 F.
Skip: Mid-November through March: Sawtooth roads chain-required, Lucky Peak shoulder season, overnight lows below 20 F.

- Top off propane at U-Haul (5621 Fairview Ave) before any Sawtooth or Snake River Birds of Prey run.
Before you park overnight
- Do not park overnight on North End or Hyde Park streets — decal enforcement is consistent.
Also worth doing
- Confirm Mountain View, Boise Riverside, or Meridian Resort reservation before arrival; Treefort weekend fills 60 days ahead.
- Fuel diesel + DEF at Flying J Caldwell (I-84 exit 29) before pushing west to Oregon or north on US-95.
- Avoid downtown 8th St with any rig over 25 ft on First Thursday (first Thursday of every month).
- Check Idaho 511 for ID-21 conditions Nov-Apr before any Sawtooth run.
- Stay 14 days max on Snake River Birds of Prey NCA before moving 25+ mi.
