Ponderosa State Park sits on a peninsula reaching into Payette Lake from town and is the canonical RV play: 137 sites split between Main Unit (electric hookups) and Northern Unit (no hookups), year-round operation with winter access reduced. Idaho State Parks reservation opens 9 months in advance.
Outside the SP, Lake Cascade State Park (35 mi south on Hwy 55) and Payette National Forest USFS sites along the Payette River corridor add capacity. McCall city code restricts overnight on-street RV parking; commercial RV parks (Bear Creek Lodge area, McCall RV Resort) handle full-hookup demand.
Hwy 55 (the only paved route in and out, locally called the Payette River Scenic Byway) carries a CDOT-equivalent ITD winter chain advisory from November through April; the Banks-to-Lowman cutoff (Banks Lowman Rd) is closed in winter. Propane and diesel cluster at Maverik on Hwy 55 in McCall and the Chevron near the airport; for full Class A diesel pull-through, plan Boise (110 mi south). Best season is mid-June through September — the Payette River alpine summer is peak; ski season (Brundage and Tamarack) is fantastic for skiers but RV-hostile in deep snow.
