Skip the classic mistake
Assuming all USFS sites along Hwy 75 are reservable — Boundary is first-come and fills by noon in peak summer
Best window: Mid-June through early September — alpine summer with full USFS and SP access.

Late August-September (wildfire smoke risk) and November-April (deep snow + ski-resort pricing).

Arriving after midday during July-August can mean a 90-minute drive south or to Stanley basin for fallback
