Timing
Late June through mid-September is the season, unambiguously: under an inch of monthly rainfall, Mount Rainier and Olympic loop roads fully open, all dump stations active, and city highs in the low-to-mid 70s. The reservation mechanics inside that window are the trip's real difficulty — Cougar Rock at Rainier releases on a 6-month rolling window at 7 a.m. Pacific and weekend sites go in under two minutes, while Kalaloch on the Olympic coast staggers its releases at 6 months, 2 weeks, and 4 days. November through February is the season to skip: chain requirements on the passes for RVs over 10,000 pounds, 17-plus rain days a month, and 4:20 p.m. sunsets. One event note: Seafair's Blue Angels windows (typically early August) close I-90 midday and push nearby park rates 2-3x.

The close-in base 9 miles east: 100% full-hookup sites with 15/30/50-amp service for rigs to 67 feet, free cable, and an indoor pool at about $70 a night — the practical answer to Seattle's overnight street rules. Its dump also takes drop-ins at $15 during office hours, useful on a through-route.
The east-of-I-405 one-stop the guide singles out: full hookups at $75 with drive-through propane bays sized for Class A rigs to 45 feet and fifth-wheels on site, plus a $10 dump. Fill propane, dump tanks, and sleep in one address before pointing at the mountains — no other metro stop compresses the checklist like this.
The Rainier objective, 95 miles out: rigs to 35 feet, $26 a night, no hookups, seasonal dump. The booking is the challenge — reservation-only during the peak season, released on a 6-month rolling window at 7 a.m. Pacific, with weekend sites gone in under two minutes. Ohanapecosh's ongoing closure pushes all Rainier RV demand here and to White River.
The shoreline state park 20 miles south in Des Moines: no hookups, rigs to 40 feet at $37 on a 9-month window, with a $10 dump and potable water. The guide notes it sits under the Sea-Tac approach path — the honest trade for the only state-park camping this close to the city.

Good to know
Effectively no: SMC 11.72.070 bans vehicles wider than 80 inches from non-industrial streets between midnight and 6 a.m., which sweeps in virtually every Class A, Class C, and fifth-wheel. Legal overnight blocks are limited to the Ballard, Interbay, SoDo, and Georgetown industrial zones, the 72-hour blockface rule applies even there, and recovery from a Lincoln Towing impound runs $400-650.
By treating the release windows as appointments. Cougar Rock: 6-month rolling window, 7 a.m. Pacific, weekend sites gone in under two minutes. Kalaloch: staggered releases — A/B loops 6 months out, C/D two weeks, E/F four days — for its mid-May-to-late-September season, and most sites cap at 21 feet of RV length. Book the parks first, the rig second.
WSDOT classifies anything 22 feet or longer — including tow length — as oversize, with fares charged by length bracket above that line. Rigs that also exceed height or weight limits need an Oversized/Overweight Vehicle Travel form emailed to WSDOT three business days before sailing. Measure the full rig, bike racks and hitch included, before booking a crossing.
