4-3-9 explicitly prohibits sleeping in vehicles on city streets — enforced unusually strictly during the festival because of crowding complaints from the residential historic district.
At 7,000 ft elevation, the RV-relevant weather window is shorter than most renters expect: snow on the surrounding peaks is normal through late May, and Mirror Lake Highway (UT-150) — the scenic Uintas escape — is closed at the Bald Mountain summit gate from approximately November through Memorial Day per UDOT.
Jordanelle State Park (10 mi southeast off US-40) is the legal basecamp for RV renters who can't or won't pay private-resort rates: Hailstone and Rock Cliff units run year-round (Hailstone has 110 sites with hookups). Wasatch Mountain State Park (in Midway, 15 mi south) adds 122 more campsites with full hookups and is the better choice if your plan includes the Heber Valley railroad or the Soldier Hollow Games venue. Propane and tank dump cluster in Heber and Kamas — there is essentially zero RV-services infrastructure inside Park City proper. The single thing renters get wrong: assuming ski-resort base lots (Park City Mountain, Deer Valley) tolerate overnight RV — they do not, and tow rates reflect Park City's resort-economy pricing.
When to come
Best: Mid-June through September — high-country summer with dry weather and full Uintas access.
Skip: January (Sundance crowding + cold) and April (mud season, mid-snow-melt with closed shoulder routes).
Your first hour in Park City
Before you leave the lot
- Top off propane at Heber Valley Propane (limited options in Kamas or PC proper).
- If during Sundance: pre-book lodging 11 months out and confirm rates in writing.
Within the first hour
- Identify your altitude-adjustment plan if coming from sea level (7,000+ ft = real).
Also worth doing
- Confirm Jordanelle or Wasatch Mountain SP reservation — Utah State Parks fills inside 30 days for summer.
- Verify UT-150 Mirror Lake Hwy status if Uintas drive is planned (closed Nov-late May).
- Read Park City Code Sec. 4-3-9 before any thought of street overnighting.
- Check UDOT for I-80 Parley's Canyon winter chain restrictions Nov-Apr.
- Stage tank dump at SP or Mountain Valley RV before the second night.

Summit County restricts RV overnight parking on public lots to designated trailheads only, with posted seasonal closures. Even trailhead overnighting (Bonanza Flat, Guardsman Pass) is seasonal and sign-posted; check before relying on it.
