This concentration of public lands is the reason renters base out of Kanab and the reason every commercial RV park in town is at capacity from late March through October. The BLM Kanab Visitor Center runs the daily and lottery Wave permit drawings — show up in person the day before or apply through the advance lottery; success rates are low and the renter trap is treating the Wave like a guarantee.

The town itself is small (~4,800 population per US Census) and Kanab Code Sec. 12 restricts overnight RV parking on residential streets but allows it at posted city-managed lots (the visitor-center lot at 78 S 100 E is the canonical option for 24-hour transit stays). Coral Pink Sand Dunes SP campground (15 mi west) is the closest state-park option and runs year-round.

GSENM and BLM dispersed camping (boondocking) is permitted along House Rock Valley Road and Cottonwood Canyon Road — 14-day stay limit per BLM dispersed camping rules. Propane and full diesel pumps cluster at Maverik and the Chevron on US-89 north of downtown. The summer monsoon (July-August) makes the unpaved BLM access roads (Cottonwood, House Rock) genuinely dangerous in flash-flood windows — check NWS forecasts before committing to any boondock far from pavement.
