Plan dump and propane in town, time Colorado NM Rim Rock Drive for early morning to avoid afternoon heat (basin highs frequently hit 100 F in July), and never attempt the East Tunnel with any rig over 11 ft 4 in.

When to come

Best: Mid-April through mid-October: Colorado NM open, Highline Lake usable, average highs 70-95 F. Trade-off: July-August basin heat above 100 F.

Skip: December through February: Saddlehorn closed, Highline Lake closed to camping, snow on Rim Rock Drive, overnight lows below 15 F.

Entering Colorado National Monument at the East (Grand Junction) Entrance in a Class A or 5th-wheel combination over 11 ft 4 in. The East Tunnel has no turnaround. Stuck rigs must reverse out of the tunnel under NPS escort; tow recovery if jammed runs $1,500-$3,000 plus park closure to other vehicles.
