Do I need a permit for Rocky Mountain NP camping?
For established campsites within the park, yes — reserve at recreation.gov. For summer day-visits, you also need a separate timed-entry permit. For backcountry overnights, a wilderness permit from the Wilderness Office is required.
When do mountain passes open in Colorado?
Trail Ridge Road (Rocky Mountain NP, US-34) typically opens late May. Independence Pass (CO-82, Aspen to Twin Lakes) opens late May. Berthoud Pass and Loveland Pass stay open year-round but require snow tires in winter. Cottonwood, Tincup, and Engineer Passes (4WD) open late June.
