Mississippi's only federally-designated wilderness sits inside the DeSoto NF — 5,052 acres along Black Creek where the river is paddleable for 40+ continuous miles. Developed RV camping is concentrated at Big Biloxi Recreation Area (30-ft cap, dry-camp) and Cypress Creek Landing; no on-forest dump station, so the practical pattern routes through the dump at the Camp Shelby gate or a private RV park in Wiggins. Dispersed camping is allowed along Forest Service roads per the MS-1 MVUM; sandy two-tracks demand low tire pressure or all-terrain treads. The unusual operating window: peak demand is December through February when Gulf Coast snowbirds slip 40 miles inland to dodge the beach-town pricing. Summer humidity and chigger density flip the demand curve — June through September weekend bookings clear at the developed loops.
