About these eventsEach one in its own record's words.
Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo 2027 (95th). The 95th Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo runs March 2-21, 2027 at NRG Stadium and NRG Park. Daily rodeo + headliner concert format; carnival, livestock judging, and World's Championship Bar-B-Que Contest (opens prior weekend). NRG Park's RV camping is reserved for exhibitor livestock haulers; general attendees base elsewhere. Practical bases: Lakeview RV Resort (Pearland, ~15 mi south, full hookups), Houston Leisure RV Resort (Highlands, ~25 mi east), Brazos Bend State Park (Needville, ~40 mi southwest, electric + water, dark-sky access). METRO Park & Ride from Reliant Center West Lot runs Rodeo specials. Rodeo Run 10K opens the festival February 27.
SXSW Austin 2027. South by Southwest Conference + Festivals takes over downtown Austin annually. McKinney Falls State Park (Texas Parks & Wildlife) + Pecan Grove RV Park are the closest RV options.
Texas Bluebonnet Season 2027. From roughly late March through April, bluebonnets carpet the Texas Hill Country — the state's defining spring spectacle, strongest in the triangle around Burnet (the officially designated Bluebonnet Capital of Texas), Llano, and Fredericksburg. Intensity varies with fall and winter rains, so treat any single year's density honestly: good rain years produce highway shoulders that look painted; dry years still bloom, just thinner. The classic drives are the Willow City Loop north of Fredericksburg — a narrow ranch road that becomes one of the state's most photographed routes in bloom — and the roads ringing Lake Buchanan. Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area on the Colorado River is famous for solid fields of blue in strong years and takes reservations for its primitive campsites; Inks Lake State Park near Burnet is the established full-facility RV base in the heart of the zone. Spring is peak Texas camping and state parks book on 30-day-plus horizons — reserve pads early, rigs 8 weeks out. Burnet's Bluebonnet Festival runs annually in April.
Poteet Strawberry Festival 2027. Poteet, the self-declared Strawberry Capital of Texas, throws one of the state's biggest agricultural festivals just south of San Antonio: PRCA rodeo, national country-music headliners, a carnival, a parade and strawberries in every form (the 2026 edition was the 79th annual, April 10-12). 2027 is not yet officially dated — plan the second-weekend-of-April pattern, roughly April 9-11, 2027 (the 80th annual). The festival grounds sell on-site camping, which is the low-friction RV play; for a hookup base with more room, San Antonio's south-side RV parks are a straight shot up TX-16, close enough to fold in the Alamo City.
Fiesta San Antonio 2027. Fiesta San Antonio is the city's signature celebration — officially April 15-25, 2027 — an eleven-day run of more than a hundred events across town: the Battle of Flowers parade, the river parade's floats actually floating down the San Antonio River, A Night In Old San Antonio's four evenings packed into La Villita's lanes, and confetti-filled cascarones cracked over every friend's head. It began in 1891 honoring the memory of the Alamo and San Jacinto and has grown into one of the country's great civic festivals while staying deeply local — the medals, the royalty, the neighborhood events are San Antonio inside jokes you're invited into. An RV base solves Fiesta's real problem, which is hotel pricing during the peak nights: RV parks along the Mission Reach corridor south of downtown put you a short rideshare from the parade routes, with the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park's bike trail literally out the door for recovery mornings. Late April in south Texas is warm but pre-summer — the sweet spot. Book sites and any ticketed events (NIOSA, parade seating) well ahead; the big nights sell out.
SXSW Austin 2028. SXSW 2028 edition.
Terlingua International Chili Championship 2026. Every first week of November, the ghost-town country between Big Bend National Park and the Rio Grande fills with rigs for the Terlingua International Chili Championship — the 59th edition runs November 3-7, 2026 at Rancho CASI de los Chisos, the Chili Appreciation Society International's own ranch off FM 170. This is the rare festival where the RV is not logistics but the point: the ranch is a primitive desert campout — no hookups, no water, no shade beyond what you bring — and thousands of cooks and campers build a temporary town of rigs, flags and cook stoves under some of the darkest night skies in Texas. Tuesday through Friday layer in bean, salsa and wings contests plus live music before Saturday's championship judging. Come fully provisioned: Study Butte has limited fuel and groceries, and the nearest real resupply is Alpine, 80 miles north. Terlingua's famous quirk — two rival chili cookoffs run the same week on opposite sides of town, a schism dating to the original 1967 shootout — is half the fun of asking locals for directions. Tack on Big Bend: Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive is 40 minutes from your campsite.
Wurstfest 2026. Wurstfest is New Braunfels' ten-day salute to the German heritage of the Texas Hill Country — sausage, biergartens, polka bands and lederhosen along the Comal River, November 6-15, 2026. Founded in 1961, it's one of the Southwest's great heritage festivals and lands in the mild first-half-of-November window that makes Hill Country RV travel ideal. Guadalupe River State Park is about 30 minutes northwest for a river-canyon campground, and the New Braunfels area itself is thick with riverside RV parks built for the summer tubing crowd — plenty of hookup capacity once the season cools.
San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo 2027. The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is one of the largest events of its kind in the United States, running more than two weeks each February with professional rodeo performances followed by major concert acts, a full livestock exposition, carnival grounds, and one of the nation's biggest junior livestock shows. The 2027 edition runs February 11-28, holding the event's traditional mid-to-late-February slot. February is a quietly excellent RV month in south Texas — mild days, cool nights, and rental demand below the spring-break surge that arrives in March, so rigs and campgrounds are both easier than the event's scale suggests. Travelers World RV Resort sits along the San Antonio River about ten minutes from the grounds and fills with rodeo regulars each year. The multi-week format means flexibility: pick performances around your artist preferences once the concert lineup drops, and spend off days on the River Walk and the missions.
Kerrville Folk Festival 2027. The Kerrville Folk Festival is the longest continuously running music festival in the United States: eighteen days and nights of more than a hundred performing songwriters on Quiet Valley Ranch outside Kerrville, where the real magic is the after-hours campfire song circles that run till dawn (the 2026 edition was the 54th annual, May 21-June 7). 2027 is not yet officially dated — plan the 18-day run beginning the Thursday before Memorial Day, roughly May 27-June 13, 2027. Camping on the ranch is the tradition, but Kerrville-Schreiner Park, the city's own RV campground on the Guadalupe, is minutes away when you want hookups and a shower with walls.
State Fair of Texas 2027. The State Fair of Texas runs roughly 24 days from late September into mid-October at Dallas's Fair Park — a National Historic Landmark district of Art Deco exhibition halls built for the 1936 Texas Centennial. Big Tex, the 55-foot talking cowboy, anchors the grounds; the fair's fried-food competition sets national food trends; and the Cotton Bowl hosts the Texas-Oklahoma football game on its traditional fair-weekend slot, the single most intense day on the calendar. The fair confirms exact 2027 dates annually — late September through mid-October is its standing window. Fair Park is an urban site with no public camping, so RV logistics run through the metro: Cedar Hill State Park, on Joe Pool Lake about 25 minutes southwest, is the strongest public-lands base in the Metroplex. Early fall is prime Texas camping — summer heat finally breaking — so 8 weeks of rig lead from the DFW market is sensible. Skip driving on Texas-OU Saturday entirely; DART rail serves Fair Park directly.
Austin City Limits Music Festival 2027. Austin City Limits Music Festival 2027. McKinney Falls State Park (TX Parks & Wildlife) + Pecan Grove RV Park give downtown-adjacent RV stays.
Terlingua International Chili Championship 2027. The Chili Appreciation Society International runs its championship by a calendar anyone can work out: finals on the first Saturday of November, with the celebration opening the Tuesday before. That puts 2027 at Tuesday, November 2 through Saturday, November 6, at Rancho CASI de los Chisos, which CASI locates on the north side of Highway 170 about eleven miles west of Study Butte and seven miles east of Lajitas. CASI hosted the first Terlingua championship in 1967 and still runs the tradition; the week builds from side contests and nightly bands to Saturday's final, which only qualified cooks may enter. CASI's cookoff information page lists a local service for portable toilet rental and RV cleanout, a set of ranch safety rules to read before arrival, and Terlingua-area lodging for anyone who comes without a rig. Big Bend National Park is the neighbor; its Rio Grande Village campground keeps full-hookup sites for a longer stay after the cookoff.
Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo 2028. The Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo has run since 1896 and stakes a genuine historical claim: in 1918 it staged the world's first indoor rodeo. Today the event spans roughly three weeks from mid-January into early February across the Will Rogers Memorial Center grounds and Dickies Arena, combining professional rodeo performances, an enormous livestock show, and Fort Worth's full western culture — the Stockyards' twice-daily cattle drive runs year-round a few miles away. Exact 2028 dates come from the show's annual calendar. Mid-winter is the lowest-demand window of the Texas RV year, which makes this the easiest big-event booking in the state: 4-6 weeks of lead is typically plenty for a Dallas-Fort Worth rig. Cowtown RV Park in Aledo, 20 minutes west, is a practical full-hookup base. Expect cold snaps — north Texas January can freeze hard for days — so a rig with a real furnace and heated tanks (or freeze discipline) matters.

Asked about spring-break RV trips in Texas
When should I book a spring-break RV trip in Texas?
Book the campground first: set the Recreation.gov and state-park alerts for it, then book the rig once the site is confirmed.
What category of rig works best for a spring-break RV trip in Texas?
The dated entries on this page list RVs first most often; each event's page names the rig it suits and why.
What will the final price include?
The nightly rate you see is the rig's complete price. Before you pay, checkout itemizes every line openly — the transparent service fee, any host-set cleaning fee and any tax — with no surprises. See /pricing for the full fee breakdown.
What insurance applies when renting an RV for a spring-break trip in Texas?
PickRV is not the insurer and does not sell or offer coverage. Renters arrange their own coverage; hosts may carry their own commercial policy. Confirm your personal auto or RV policy covers rentals — and your spring-break route and intended use — before pickup.
Can I cancel a spring-break booking in Texas?
Yes — every booking carries the platform cancellation floor: cancel at least 48 hours before pickup for a full refund of the rental charges. Hosts can offer more generous terms than the floor, never stricter. Where local government issues an evacuation order or trip-disabling notice (e.g. hurricane, wildfire), the booking may qualify for a review on a case-by-case basis.
