Renting an RV in Dover: what to know before pickup
Dover has its own arrival logistics. Killens Pond State Park handles both the first night and the free dump station. 3 street-parking ordinances apply to RVs here — each cited in the arrival guide.

Camp the first night

- Tall Pines Camping Resort (Lewes/Frankford) · 40 mi out · Full hookups; family resort scale
Skip the classic mistake
Driving an unreserved Class A toward the Dover Motor Speedway gate on race weekend hoping to find a walk-up spot
Best window: May, September, and October — moderate weather, manageable race-weekend gaps, lower…
The Dover window to avoid
Stock-car race weekend (late April or early May depending on schedule) and Delaware State Fair week (late July).
What that mistake costs
Track camping is reservation-only and sells out months ahead; no walk-up overflow; nearest overflow private camp is 20+ mi south
Day one, after you pick the rig up
- Confirm whether dates overlap Dover Motor Speedway race weekend — book track camping 12 months out if yes.
- Reserve Killens Pond SP 11 months out for summer weekends.
- Top off diesel at Wawa Camden or Royal Farms Smyrna before downtown.
