Quartzite peaks of the Sauratown Mountains rise 1,700 feet above the Piedmont — an isolated range geologically separate from the Blue Ridge to the west and easily visible from Winston-Salem 30 miles south. The 73-site campground holds 30/50-amp electric and water hookups at a 36-ft cap, mid-March through November operation, with the dump station near the entrance. Reservations open 13 months ahead through ReserveAmerica. The 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps stonework defines the bathhouses, the lake spillway, and most of the original trail infrastructure. The Hanging Rock summit trail and the Window Falls cascade are the headline day-use destinations; vacation cabins (separately bookable) round out the overnight inventory. The Dan River corridor inside the adjacent recreation tract supports paddle camping that ties together a multi-day trip option.
