Sand Mountain Recreation Area: An RV Traveler's Guide

Sand Mountain is a true landmark of the western Nevada desert — a pale mass of sand visible for miles along Highway 50, the so-called Loneliest Road in America. The BLM calls it the largest single dune in the Great Basin, and at roughly 3.5 miles long it lives up to the billing.

The recreation area is set up for self-sufficient visitors. Primitive camping is available at the base of the dunes, but facilities are limited and there is no water on site, so RV travelers should come fully stocked and self-contained.
