Few wildlife events feel as primal as the salmon run — fish hurling themselves up falls and ladders, with bears and eagles close behind. These are the spots you can actually reach on an RV trip; the famous fly-in bear parks (Brooks Falls, Lake Clark) are plane-only, so they're not listed here. Each spot lists its typical window and an honest note on access. Run timing varies year to year.

A salmon run is not one event. Each river carries several species on separate schedules, so the same water can be crowded with sockeye in June and empty until the coho arrive in September. The windows on these pages are quoted per species for that reason — read the row, not the month.
What moves the date is water, not the calendar. A dry summer holds fish in the salt until rain lifts the river; a warm one pushes them early. Agencies post counts through the season, which is why every page here ends at a fish-count or park page rather than a promise — a run you can plan six months out is a run someone invented.
