Hawaii is the most-difficult US state for RV travel. The state's island geography means RVs cannot be driven between islands. Inter-island RV transport is very expensive ($1,000+ per island). RV rental fleets on the Big Island, Maui, Oahu, and Kauai are small. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is one of the most-visited Big Island sites but reaching it by RV requires significant planning.

Can I take my RV to Hawaii?
Practically no. Shipping a personal RV to Hawaii costs $1,000+ per direction. The only realistic path is to rent locally on the island you want to visit. Big Island RV rental fleets exist but are small. Maui rentals are slightly more numerous. Oahu has the largest fleet but the smallest scenic landscape. Kauai has minimal RV options. Hawaii is the homeland of the Native Hawaiian (Kānaka Maoli) people. The 1893 overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom was illegal under international law; Hawaii's incorporation into the US is contested by many Native Hawaiian advocates.
Visit with awareness. Hawaii is more than tourism — it is a living Native Hawaiian community with deep cultural traditions. Respect sacred sites (heiau), don't take rocks (Pele's curse is informal but the spiritual reality is real), don't trespass on private or culturally-significant lands.
