Mojave + Sonoran desert RV routes
Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Mojave, Saguaro. The desert circuit.
The Mojave and Sonoran deserts of California, Nevada, and Arizona contain four major NPS units (Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Mojave Preserve, Saguaro) plus extensive BLM dispersed camping. Winter (November-April) is the only practical RV season — summer heat is genuinely dangerous.

When is the desert RV season?
November through April only. Summer temperatures routinely exceed 110°F. Death Valley has recorded the highest reliable temperature in the world. Even with RV AC, prolonged exposure is dangerous. Plan desert trips for the November-April window when daytime highs are 70-85°F and nights are cool.

Desert RV planning
Death Valley NP: Furnace Creek + Stovepipe Wells campgrounds (RV-friendly). Texas Springs (RV permitted seasonally).
Joshua Tree NP: Jumbo Rocks, Black Rock, Indian Cove campgrounds (limited RV size).
Mojave National Preserve: Hole-in-the-Wall + Mid Hills campgrounds.
Saguaro NP: no NPS camping in the park itself. Stay at Tucson-area private parks or BLM dispersed.
BLM dispersed camping: extensive in Mojave + Sonoran. Quartzsite Arizona is the famous winter snowbird gathering.
What NPS Death Valley + Joshua Tree doesn't tell you
Regional travel guides typically focus on individual destinations. PickRV's regional guides focus on the multi-day RV-route reality — how to connect destinations efficiently, where to camp at intervals, what fuel + supply discipline matters.
The BLM dispersed-camping reality is one of the best deals in US RV travel. Multiple LTVAs (Long-Term Visitor Areas) accept RVs for $40/2-week or $180/season.
