Old Fall River Road is the original road into Rocky Mountain National Park's alpine country, completed in 1920. The road runs 9 miles one-way uphill from Endovalley to Alpine Visitor Center. It is unpaved, narrow, and explicitly RV-unsuitable. Trail Ridge Road is the RV-friendly alternative. This page exists to help RV travelers understand the distinction.

Can I drive Old Fall River Road in an RV?
No. The road is unpaved, narrow, and posted as not recommended for trailers or large vehicles. Class A and Class C motorhomes should not attempt it. Class B campervans are mechanically capable but the experience is rough. The companion route — Trail Ridge Road on US-34 — accomplishes the same destination (Alpine Visitor Center) in a fully paved, RV-friendly format.

Why this page exists
Many RV travelers heading to Rocky Mountain NP accidentally take Old Fall River Road thinking it is the scenic route. It is not the RV scenic route. Trail Ridge Road on US-34 is. PickRV explicitly distinguishes between the two.
Use Old Fall River Road only in a passenger vehicle or small Class B if you specifically want the historic experience. Don't take an RV up Old Fall River Road. Use Trail Ridge Road.
What NPS Rocky Mountain doesn't tell you
NPS does post signage at the Old Fall River Road entrance noting restrictions but the signs are easy to miss. Verify route before committing.
