Parking ordinances that bite RVs
A recreational vehicle may not be parked on any street in a residential district in Wichita for longer than two hours without a Use of Street Permit or Use of Right of Way Permit. In any 24-hour period it is unlawful for such a vehicle to be parked on the same side of the street, in the same block, for periods totalling more than two hours.
Citation: Wichita Code of Ordinances Sec. 11.52.020(24) (Unlawful parking—Exceptions)
What this means for you: The second sentence is the one that catches people: moving the rig around the corner and back does not buy a fresh two hours, because the limit is cumulative per side, per block, per day. The only exceptions are loading, unloading, or performing a service at a residence.
No motor vehicle with an overall length of vehicle and load exceeding eighteen feet may be parked in Wichita's regulated parking zones, and no vehicle over eighteen feet may be parked diagonally where diagonal parking is permitted.
Citation: Wichita Code of Ordinances Sec. 11.52.050 (Diagonal parking—Restrictions)
What this means for you: Eighteen feet rules out every rental class larger than a camper van, so the marked diagonal and metered bays in Old Town and Delano are not an option — look for a surface lot with pull-through room instead.
