The SNRA designates camping at named USFS sites — Redfish Lake (multiple loops: Outlet, Glacier View, Mountain View, Sockeye), Stanley Lake (60+ sites across loops), Iron Creek, Sheep Trail, and many others. Reservations open 6 months in advance on Recreation.gov for the reservable subset; first-come sites fill by mid-morning July-August. Bear-aware food storage is required throughout SNRA per USFS rule and rangers enforce.
Stanley village has Mountain Village RV Resort as the primary commercial full-hookup option. Hwy 21 (Banner Summit / Stanley road) and Hwy 75 (Sawtooth Scenic Byway from Sun Valley over Galena Summit) are the two paved approaches; Hwy 21 over Banner Summit (7,056 ft) has winter chain advisories from ITD and is plowed but storms close it. Salmon River put-ins for Middle Fork outfitter trips cluster around the Stanley airstrip area; renter pickups happen at the village.
Propane and diesel are extremely limited in Stanley — Maverik in Stanley sells gasoline + diesel but propane refill requires Sun Valley/Ketchum (60 mi south) or Challis (60 mi east via Hwy 75). The best season is July through mid-September; snowmelt timing controls the trout season and the whitewater put-in schedule. Watch for wildfire smoke Aug-Sep.
