On top of that, SFMTA Transportation Code Section 7.2.54 bans overnight parking of any vehicle over 22 feet long or 7 feet tall between midnight and 6:00 AM on any street where the agency has posted signs — and the SFMTA Board approved a citywide two-hour daytime limit for those same oversized vehicles on June 17, 2025, with a $108 base citation. There are zero legal overnight RV spots inside the city limits north of the airport.

The old Candlestick Point RV staging lot was cleared in March 2025, and the only private full-hookup park inside city limits is Candlestick RV Park near SFO. Almost every RV traveler ends up basing 15 miles south at the Pacifica bluff or 17 miles north across the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin. Plan dump, propane, and reservations before you cross the Bay Bridge — once you are inside the 7×7-mile peninsula, your legal options collapse to "keep moving."

When should I plan my trip to San Francisco?

Best season to come

September-October: dry, fog burns off by 11am, post-Labor Day rates drop ~20% at Pacifica and Marin parks (avoid Fleet Week Oct 4-12).

Season to skip

June-July: thick coastal fog ("Karl") at Pacifica and Half Moon Bay parks, 55-60°F highs, peak Outside Lands lead-up demand, and the lowest visibility for the bluff sites you paid premium for.

Parking ordinances that bite RVs

Human habitation of vehicles prohibited on any street, beach, park, or public way in a residential neighborhood between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM.

What this means for you: Sleeping in your RV on a city street overnight is a misdemeanor. Enforcement is complaint-driven but active in Marina, Sunset, Outer Richmond, and Bayview. No warning required before citation.

Your first hour in San Francisco

Before you leave the lot

Fill propane at U-Haul Candlestick (1575 Bayshore Blvd) before 5pm Sunday — it is the only Sunday-open propane refill inside city limits.
Confirm your Pacifica or Marin reservation is in hand before crossing the Bay Bridge or Golden Gate; do not assume walk-up availability.

Within the first hour

Dump tanks at Trailer Villa Redwood City ($30) or Francis Beach Half Moon Bay ($10, card only) on the way in — there is no public dump inside SF proper.
Park the RV at your reservation, then take BART (Daly City or Millbrae) or the Marin Larkspur Ferry into the city. Do not drive the RV downtown.

Before bed

Read the curb signs before stopping anywhere — SFMTA 22 ft / 7 ft signs trigger $108 citations 24/7 under the June 2025 ordinance.
Top off diesel at Flyers Energy on S Airport Blvd, South SF — last truck-friendly fuel before the city.

Before departure

Photograph your odometer and exterior at check-in; AutoReturn impound disputes require pre-tow evidence.
Buy a Clipper card on your phone for transit; parking a Class C downtown is a $50/day garage cost when you can find clearance under 7 ft.

Parking your RV on a residential side street in the Sunset, Marina, or Bayview overnight because the block looks quiet.

SF Police Code 97 is a misdemeanor citation; SFMTA 7.2.54 adds a $108 oversized-vehicle ticket; if towed, AutoReturn impound at 450 7th St runs roughly $600 tow + storage + admin, typically $800-$1,200 to release a Class C. Neighbors call 311 within an hour in those districts.
