The Olympic National Forest (separate from the National Park) allows dispersed camping along many forest roads on the peninsula. Towering old-growth Douglas fir and western red cedar create a cathedral-like camping experience. Sites along the Hoh, Quinault, and Dosewallips river roads are particularly scenic.

Be prepared for rain — even in summer. The west side of the Games gets 12+ feet of rain per year.
Forest roads can be rough. Check conditions at the ranger station in Forks or Quinault.
Salmon and steelhead fishing is world-class in many of these rivers (Washington license required).
Roosevelt elk are commonly seen grazing in meadows along the Hoh and Quinault valleys.
The Quinault Rain Forest loop is a short, flat trail through massive old-growth trees — perfect for a rainy day.
