Ocala National Forest is one of the few places in the eastern US where free dispersed camping is permitted on public land. The forest's 383,000 acres contain sand pine scrub, hardwood hammocks, and over 600 lakes and ponds. Several springs (Juniper, Alexander, Salt) provide crystal-clear swimming holes.
Free camping is allowed at designated primitive sites throughout the forest.

Bugs can be brutal in summer. Visit October-April and bring repellent year-round.
The Florida Trail passes through the forest — great for day hiking.
