Code §40-12-220 et seq. at 1.5% (auto rental) or 4% (general rental TPP) on the gross rental receipts — in addition to standard sales tax. Most counties also impose a Local Rental Tax (0.5-2%). What hosts get caught by
Alabama's age of majority is 19 (not 18) — the minimum rental driver age for RVs is 19, not 18 like most states
Ala. Code §26-1-1 sets the age of majority at 19. A 18-year-old in Alabama cannot legally enter into a binding rental contract without a co-signed guarantor. Hosts setting their minimum rental age at 18 expose the contract to voidability. PickRV's marketplace must enforce minimum age 19 for Alabama pickups specifically — global age-18 default does not survive Alabama contract law.
Primary source ↗(opens in new tab)Alabama imposes a SEPARATE Rental Tax (Ala. Code §40-12-220) on top of sales tax — for vehicles 1.5%, for general TPP 4%
Alabama's Rental Tax (state level) is in addition to standard sales tax: 1.5% on automotive vehicle rentals + 4% on general tangible personal property rentals (excluding motor vehicles). Counties may layer Local Rental Tax up to 2%. The classification of motorhome RVs is contested — Class A/B/C motorhomes generally qualify as 'automotive vehicles' (1.5%), but towables (travel trailers, fifth wheels) likely fall under general TPP (4%).
