Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve, California super-bloom
On a good spring the rolling hills west of Lancaster turn solid orange with California poppies — the state flower, by the million. The reserve is day-use only, so most RVers base at Saddleback Butte and time their visit to a bright, still morning when the poppies open. Wind and clouds keep them closed, so the hour matters.
Typical window
As early as mid-February through May; peak usually late March to early April
Signature flowers
California poppy, Owl's clover, Lupine, Goldfield, Cream cups
Where
Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve (California State Parks, day-use)
Nearest RV base
Saddleback Butte State Park (~17 mi east of Lancaster)
Time it honestly
The state notes the intensity and duration vary yearly and they don't water or stimulate the flowers — it's all weather. The reserve is day-use only; check the park's bloom report and pick a sunny, calm day.
