Personal motorhomes under 26,001 lbs need no special license
SC requires a non-commercial Class E license for single-unit vehicles (including motor homes/RVs) with GVW more than 26,000 lbs, and Class F for such combinations; a regular Class D license cannot be used for those. Therefore a standard Class D license covers motorhomes at or under 26,000 lbs (i.e., under 26,001 lbs).

Boats & watercraft — South Carolina
Boater education required for anyone born after July 1, 2007
South Carolina requires everyone born after July 1, 2007 to pass an approved boater education course before operating a boat, personal watercraft, or specialty propcraft powered by a 10 hp or larger motor — which reaches operators up to age 19 in 2026, not just teenagers under 16. Renters in that age group may instead carry a boat rental safety certificate issued in their own last name, valid 30 days from the date of issuance. Lake Murray, Lake Marion and the Intracoastal Waterway add SCDNR and federal jurisdiction on top.

Frequently asked
Do foreign visitors need a special license to rent an RV in South Carolina?
Visitors from outside the US can usually drive a standard rental motorhome on a valid home-country license under US reciprocity. South Carolina's age and weight limits still apply, and a special non-commercial license may be needed for the largest rigs. Confirm with SC DMV before you travel.
