Eight kettle ponds carved by retreating glaciers 12,000 years ago dot the 1,900-acre tract in Brewster — the largest concentration of freshwater swimming inventory anywhere on Cape Cod. The campground holds 404 sites across multiple loops at a 35-ft cap, mid-April through mid-October operation, dry-camp only (the kettle-pond water-table protections rule out hookup utility runs throughout the system) with the dump station near the entrance. Reservations open 6 months ahead through ReserveAmerica and Cape Cod summer demand from Boston and New York saturates every July and August weekend within minutes. The Cape Cod Rail Trail bisects the park and provides bike-only access to Brewster, Orleans, and Nauset Beach. Cliff Pond, Flax Pond, and Higgins Pond are the headline kettle-pond swimming spots; Cliff Pond's east shore is the quietest.
