Diesel station locator strategy for RV travelers
Where to find diesel reliably + how to avoid running dry.
Diesel motorhome RV travelers face a different fuel-sourcing reality than gas RV travelers. Diesel is not universally available at every gas station — many small-town stations carry gasoline only. Truck stops (Pilot Flying J, Love's, TA-Petro) reliably stock diesel but may not accommodate RVs at certain pump positions. This guide collects diesel-sourcing strategy for RV travelers.

Where can I find diesel for my RV?
Major truck stop chains carry diesel reliably: Pilot Flying J (1,000+ locations), Love's (700+), TA-Petro (250+). Many regional truck stops also stock diesel. Most full-service gas stations in metropolitan areas carry diesel; rural stations often do not. Apps: Pilot Flying J app for chain locations, TruckerPath for community-reported availability, GasBuddy for price comparison. Plan 200-mile fuel windows in remote areas and never run below 1/4 tank.

Truck stop RV pump access
Most large truck stops have multiple diesel pump configurations. Many have RV-specific pumps (smaller flow rate, smaller nozzle than the high-volume truck pump). Some Pilot Flying J locations have dedicated RV lanes.
If your rig is over 30 feet, use the truck side of the station (large vehicle pumps). The high-flow nozzles may overshoot smaller RV tank openings; the RV-specific lane is preferred when available.
Verify ULSD (Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel) at any station — required for post-2007 diesel engines.
What Pilot Flying J + GasBuddy doesn't tell you
Marketing emphasizes loyalty programs and rewards points. The honest planning answer is: pick chains based on location convenience and prices. The fuel itself is fungible.
TruckerPath community-reported diesel availability is genuinely useful — drivers report current diesel pricing and pump status.
