US border crossing fuel rules
RV-specific fuel and propane rules for US-Canada + US-Mexico crossings.
RV crossings between US and Canada or Mexico involve specific fuel + propane rules. US fuel can typically be brought across both borders. Propane requires verification of tank certification (CSA in Canada). Insurance must be cross-border-valid. This guide covers the practical reality.

Can I bring my RV across the Canadian border?
Yes for short-term visits (up to 6 months). Requirements: valid US passport, US driver's license, vehicle registration, US insurance that's valid in Canada (verify with insurer), ArriveCAN app may apply, RV propane tank CSA certification (most US tanks are dual-certified). No specific fuel restriction. Bring your firearm declaration if applicable (firearms have strict rules).

Mexico-specific considerations
Mexico requires: temporary vehicle import permit (Banjercito) for stays beyond a certain border zone, Mexican auto insurance (US insurance not valid in Mexico for vehicle damage), passport, FMM tourist permit. The border zone exception applies within ~25 miles of the border.
Many US RV insurance policies do not extend to Mexico. Mexican-policy companies (Sanborn's, Mexpro) sell tourist coverage by the day or trip.
What CBP + Banjercito + Canadian Border Services doesn't tell you
Border rules change. Always verify current requirements before crossing. Sanborn's Mexican insurance and Mexpro both maintain updated guidance for US travelers.
