When is bluebonnet season in the Hill Country?
Bluebonnets peak typically the second to third week of April in the Texas Hill Country. The bloom window extends late March through early May depending on winter rainfall. Indian paintbrush, Mexican hat, and primrose accompany the bluebonnets. The Texas DOT does not mow highway shoulders during peak bloom — a deliberate state-tourism policy. Plan around the bloom for the best photographic and scenic experience.

What's also undercovered: the LBJ Ranch (NPS unit at Johnson City) is genuinely one of the best presidential history sites in the US. Two-hour visit is a meaningful add to any Hill Country trip.
