Is PCH driveable in Los Angeles in an RV?
Yes — the southern PCH is the most RV-friendly stretch of the entire highway. The road is multi-lane through most of LA and Orange County. Traffic is the constraint, not the road. Newport Beach to Huntington Beach (about 10 miles): Bolsa Chica State Beach has the largest RV campground in Orange County. Sunset Beach and Surfside are residential — RV parking is restricted.
Huntington to Long Beach (about 20 miles): the route passes refineries, the Port of Long Beach, and the Queen Mary. Few RV options. Long Beach RV park options are inland off the coast.

Tourism boards portray PCH as one continuous scenic drive from Mexico to Oregon. Honest reality: it is six distinct routes connected by name only. Southern California PCH is suburban-coastal — sunny, traffic-bound, easy to drive, hard to romanticise.
The trade-off is real, though. Southern PCH gives you LA and Orange County access from a beach campground — something genuinely hard to arrange in this region. A weekend at Bolsa Chica or Dockweiler is logistically simpler than booking a hotel and parking the RV separately.
Tourism guides do not tell you that street parking with an RV is heavily enforced from Dana Point to Malibu. Use the campgrounds. Use designated lots. Do not assume coastal-California laxity — these are some of the most actively patrolled coastal corridors in the country.
