More on Manatee Springs State ParkField notes, rig limits by loop, seasons, what to do, quiet spots
Manatee Springs is a 2,400-acre Florida state park on the Suwannee River, 6 miles west of Chiefland. The first-magnitude spring pumps 100 million gallons of 72°F water daily, hosting 30-50 manatees from Nov through Mar. The campground has 100 RV sites with electric + water hookups across two loops. Less crowded than Blue Springs (5hr south) but equally manatee-magic.

What the official site doesn't tell you
PickRV editor's field notes
The Florida State Parks site advertises Manatee Springs as 'Suwannee River access' but doesn't tell you that the BEST manatee viewing isn't at the spring boil itself — it's 800 yards downstream at the Suwannee River confluence, accessible by canoe (rentals at park concession $30/half-day). The spring pool has clearer water but lower manatee density than the river merge. Second non-obvious fact: the campground has TWO loops with very different vibes — Loop A is shaded oak hammock (cooler in summer); Loop B is open palmetto (sunnier, better cell signal). The official site doesn't note which loop suits which trip; locals know Loop A for Jun-Sep, Loop B for Nov-Mar. Third: the 8.5mi paved bike path connects to Lower Suwannee NWR — bring bikes if you have outdoor storage.
